Bali Under A Tight Security Umbrella

Warships, Fighter Aircraft and Massive Police Presenceto Keep World’s Leaders Safe in Bali During APEC Summit

(9/30/2013) In anticipation of the gathering of world leaders to take place in Bali during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit (APEC), 15 warships will be patrolling the coastal waters of Bali October 1-8, 2013.

Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Moeldoko, quoted by the State News Agency Antara, said: "A total of 15 warships have been deployed."
Also forming part of the sizeable military deployment in place to ensure the peace are F-16 fighter jets, Sukhoi and M-17 fighters."

The General discounted the possibility of any attack being mounted during the APEC conference but explained that the deployment was needed nonetheless to deter any potential security threat.

While the Navy and Air Force will guard Bali’s seas and skies, 11 thousand police will be on duty during the summit to be attended by an estimated 25 heads of state.

"We are on stand-by mode. Standard operating procedures have been prepared in case of threats," explained General Moeldoko.
