A Dopey Encore

Australian Ricky Dawson Busted for the Second Time Since 2011 for Drug Use in Bali.

A tourist from Victoria, Australia is unlikely to receive any compassion from the Indonesian judicial system following his arrest in Kuta, Bali on Friday, October 11, 2019 with a recreational quantity of methamphetamine. Ricky Shane Rawson’s (57) arrest mirrors a similar drug bust from 2011 in Bali when he was convicted of possessing 0.06 grams of methamphetamines.

The 2011 arrest resulted in a conviction and slap-on-the-wrist sentence of only four months behind bars.

Beritabali.com reports that Rawson's latest arrest took place at 2:00 am in his Kuta hotel room in the act of consuming the narcotic. At the time of the arrest, police found a plastic zip bag holding 0.37 grams of methamphetamines and a glass pipe used for inhaling the substance.

Rawson confessed to police that he had just brought the drugs from a local man at a price of Rp. 700,000. Based on information provided by the Australian, police are now seeking the dealer.

Rawson told the police he uses the narcotic to self-medicate chest and pulmonary complaints.

Following laboratory tests on both Rawson and the substance in his possession, police have 6 days to charge the man with drug possession and consumption under violations of the law punishable by up to 5 years in jail.
