468 Flights in and out of Bali Cancelled due to Nyepi – Day of Silence – Observances
As part of Bali’s “Day of Silence” – Nyepi on Thursday, March 7, 2019, Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport will halt all flight operations for a 24-hour period from 6:00 am on Thursday, March 7, 2019, until 6:00 am on March 8, 2019.
A Notice-to-Airman (NOTAM) has been issued by Indonesian aviation authorities advising of the closure. Scheduled airlines have adjusted their schedules canceling flights to and from Bali on March 7th. The only aircraft allowed to land in Bali on that date are planes requiring emergency technical stops or humanitarian medical flights.
An Angkasa Pura spokesperson, quoted by Tribun-Bali.com, said: “Based on the data we have received, at least 468 flights will not operate during the Nyepi period. Of that total, 261 are domestic flights and 207 international routings."
The two airlines most affected by the Nyepi shutdown are Lion Air and Indonesia Air Asia who canceled 67 and 52 flights, respectively.
In terms of destinations, flight from Bali to Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta Airport will suffer the most cancellations with 52 flights affected, followed by Surabaya (16) and Lombok (10).
