Prosecutors Demand 1 Year Prison for Bali-Based Melbourne Event Organizer

Greg Egli, the 42 –year-old Australian Event Organizer from Melbourne returned to the Denpasar District Court on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, to hear State Prosecutors demand a one-year prison term for the illegal possession of methamphetamines.

As reported by Balipost.com, Egli is charged with violating Section 127, paragraph 1, subsection “a” of the Anti-Narcotic Law Number 35 of 2009 for possessing 0.09 grams of methamphetamines (sabu-sabu).

The Australian was arrested on January 28, 2019, at his Denpasar residence in possession of drugs based on reports of narcotic use given to police by neighbors. Egli told police he had purchased the drugs from a man named Derry for Rp. 2.3 million, paying with a bank transfer.

Police say Egli was both smoking the methamphetamine through a bong and also injecting the drug intravenously.

Egli and his lawyer will present his defense at the next court proceeding.
