Bali as an International Sporting Event Destination

Provincial Sporting Games Paving the Way for Bali to Host More Sporting Events

Bali’s Deputy Governor Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati (Cok Ace) has welcomed the launching of a new mascot for the Bali Provincial Games XIV 2019 (Porprov Bali XIV-2019), saying he hoped the coming games would be a further stimulus to expanding sports tourism in Bali.

As reported by Beritabali.com, Cok Ace’s comments were made at a meeting with the press during a ceremony at the Gedung Mario in Tabanan on Friday, November 23, 2018.

Cok Ace said sports tourism forms parts of Bali’s future tourism development plans that include cultural tourism, religious tourism, and MICE (meetings, incentives, conference and exhibitions). He said that Bali possesses great potential for sports tourism due to the natural support it enjoys from the well-established reputation for beauty enjoyed by the Island.

He added, increasing the level of sports tourism in Bali can be done through the development, diversification, expansion and strengthening of the Island’s attractiveness as a venue for international sporting events such as marathons, bike races, triathlons and alike. Through holding the Provincial Sports Games, he hopes that even sporting activities will be attracted to Bali

The 2019 Porprov Bali XIV has adopted the theme: Sports, Tourism and Culture. The meaning of the games' logo comes from the Margarana Temple (Candi Margarana) that celebrates the heroism of the people of the Regency of Tabanan in the historical defense of their sovereignty. The games' branding also includes as a mascot the Balinese bovine named “Siteng” or “Si Banteng”.
