Bali Elects its Next Governor
Wayan Koster and Tjok Ace Declared Winners of Bali’s Governor-Deputy Governor’s Race
While a final and official count is still underway, it appears certain that Dr. Ir Wayan Koster MM and Dr. Ir. Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati MSI (Koster-Cok Ace) have been elected as Governor and Deputy Governor of the Province of Bali for a five-year term.
The pair ran on a collaborative political tickets supported by the PDIP, Hanura, PKPI, PAN, PKB, and PPP parties.
The “quick count” announced after the polls closed on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, showed Koster-Cok Ace secured 58.25% of the popular votes in a landslide victory over IB Rai Dharmawijaya Mantra and Ketut Sudikerta (Mantra-Kerta) who garnered 41.75% of the vote. Mantra-Kerta ran on a coalition of parties comprised of Golkar, Demokrat, Gerindra, NasDem, PKS, and PBB.
From among the 9 Regencies and municipalities of Bali, Koster-Ace won in the regencies of Badung, Tabanan, Buleleng, Bangli, and Gianyar. Meanwhile, Mantra-Kerta had winning margins onlyin Denpasar, Klungkung, and Karangasem,
