Colombian Tourist Drowns on Seminyak Beach

Heavy Currents Blamed in Death of Lucas Barrales Whose Body Was Recovered After a 24-Hour Sea Search

After a sea-search of nearly 24 hours, Search and Rescue Workers in Bali recovered the body of a 35-year-old Colombian man, Lucas Barrales, who disappeared while swimming in front of the Anantara Hotel in Seminyak, Kuta on Sunday, January 5, 2020.

As reported by Beritabali.com, Barrales’ body was discovered on Monday, January 6, 2020, at 10:00 am near Lifeguard Station #6 located about one kilometer to the south of where the man was last seen swimming.

At the time of his disappearance, the Colombian was swimming with two companions. All three swimmers were swept down the beach by a strong current. Bali lifeguards launched into the ocean to save the three, managing only to bring two of the three swimmers to shore.

Barrales was holidaying in Bali with his wife and young child at the time of his drowning.

The lifeguards immediately notified the Bali Search and Rescue Agency (Basnarnas – Denpasar) who, in turn, immediate launch a search effort that was paused at nightfall on Monday. On the following morning, search efforts were resumed that resulted in finding the man’s body washed ashore at 10:30 am.

Barrales' body was transported to the Sanglah General Hospital for forensic examination while awaiting final disposition by the deceased’s family.
