Adil Chaabaoute (33) a German National and member of the German Republic's Armed Forces is under arrest in Bali charged with criminal assault in connection with an attack on a Balinese taxi driver, I Gede Dharma Jaya (37), that occurred on Jalan Sarinande in Seminyak, Kuta on Tuesday, January 14, 2020.
Quoted by Kompas.com, the head of the Kuta Police Precinct, Teuku Ricki Fadlianshah, confirmed the German has been registered as a defendant in a criminal proceeding.
Ricki explained that on Tuesday, January 14th the Balinese taxi driver was traveling on Jalan Sarinade in Seminyak at 2:00 pm when Adil Chaabaoute, traveling on a motorcycle from the opposite direction, struck the front bumper of the taxi.
When the Balinese approached the German to discuss the accident, the German angrily responded by pushing the Gede Dharma Jaya's body and striking his face, causing a bloody wound to the Balinese man’s lip before abruptly leaving the scene.
The Balinese driver reported the assault to the police providing a photo of his assailant and his motorcycles that enabled police to take Adil Chaabaoute into custody a short time later in North Kuta. The German told police he had only pushed the man after their vehicle collision, reacting emotionally after seeing his female companion fall from his bike.
Chaabaoute denied hitting the Balinese.
The German remains in jail awaiting trial.
