Thieving Former Wing Air Pilot Sentenced to Only 3.5 Months Prison for Stealing Wristwatch from Duty Free Shop at Bali Airport
Putra Setiaji, the kleptomaniacal Indonesian pilot who stole a Rp. 4.95 million wrist watch from Inti Dufree Promosinfo at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport was sentenced in a Denpasar Court to 3 months and 15 days in prison on Wednesday, July 10, 2019.
As reported by the State News Agency Antara, the graduate of a National Aviation Academy was flying for Wing Air at the time of the theft and fired from his job shortly after his arrest. The theft took place on January 29, 2019.
The 21 year-old pilot plead before the court that he was a habitual kleptomaniac who was undergoing treatment for his compulsion to steal.
The sentence of 3 months and 15 days was less than the 5 months sought by State Prosecutors. At Prosecutors; discretion, the man could have been charged under the law with crimes punishable by 5 years in prison.
