Fatal Landslides in Bali’s North

Landslide Claim 6 Live on Slopes of Mount Agung

Kompas.com reports that landslides resulting from high levels of rainfall on the slopes of volcanic Mount Agung have claimed the lives of 6 Balinese villagers.

On Sunday, January 27, 2019, two people died in the village of Ban, where a landslide killed two women, Ni Ketut Puspa Wati (28) and Ni Komang Mertini (19). The women were sitting in a home visiting friends when a landslide caused the building’s wall to collapse and kill them.

Two days later another landslide at Banjar Sangker in the Village Mengening, Kubutambahan, also on the slopes of volcanic Mount Agung in Northwest Bali claimed the lives of four people on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Buried and killed by the torrent of mud and soil were Ketut Budikaca (33), Luh Sentiani (27), Putu Rikasih (9) and Kadek Sutama (5).
