Garuda Introduces New Kebaya Uniforms for its Female Cabin Crew

The Jakarta Globe reports that the National Flag Carrier Garuda Indonesia took members of the media on a special departure of its Jakarta-Semarang service on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, in order to showcase a new uniform for stewardesses serving Garuda passengers.

Designated the “Kebaya Pertiwi Special Flight” saw the female cabin crew adorned in stylish new sarong-kebayas created by leading Indonesian fashion designer and label Anne Avantie.

Ari Askhara, representing Garuda’s senior management said:"Garuda Indonesia has a commitment to preserve the kebaya as our cultural heritage and a key part of the Indonesian identity."

The selection of a full kebaya for Garuda Indonesia’s stewardesses highlights a comeback of the very traditional form of Balinese dress in which Indonesian traditional female wear is being stylized by leading fashion houses and increasingly seen a chic couture.

Commenting on being assigned to fashion a kebaya for Garuda Indonesia, Ann Avantie said: "Kebaya Pertiwi is a special design for Garuda Indonesia. I want everyone in the world to associate the kebaya with Indonesia.”

The special flight to launch the new uniform form part of Garuda’s “New Flight Experience” Campaign what also encompasses in-flight entertainment, signature meals, and a number of planes decorated in commemorative liveries.
