Vietjet Air Commences Five Time a Week Ho Chi Minh City to Bali Service

With the commencement of Vietjet Air Service connecting Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Bali - the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has announced their intent to undertake joint promotion with the Airline to persuade more Vietnamese tourists to travel to Indonesia.

As reported by the State News Agency Antara, the deputy in charge of market development for the Tourism Ministry, Rizki Handayani, said in Jakarta on Thursday, May 30, 2019: “I am convinced that the new route will prove mutually beneficial (for Indonesia and Vietnam). First, it will increase visitors from Vietnam to Bali. And, on the other hand, the number of people traveling from Indonesia to Ho Chi Minh City will increase.”

The first Vietjet Air flight from Ho Chi Minh City landed in Bali on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 carrying 180 passengers.

Operating as a low cost carrier, the Vietjet flight left Ho Chi Minh City at 8:15 am landing in Bali at 1:05 pm.

The first twenty passengers disembarking the plane received floral bouquets and souvenirs handed out by representatives of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Vietjet Air.

As part of the welcome extended to the inaugural flight, a seminar for travel agents, a press conference, and a gala dinner were held at the Hotel Pullman in Legian Beach.

Handayani said the new direct flight service from Vietnam to Bali should increase the total number of Vietnamese visitors to Indonesia that remains relatively low.  Adding: “The total number of Vietnamese tourist coming to Indonesia is still very small. Last year, we recorded 75,632 Vietnamese tourists traveling to all of Indonesia. This year, we are targeting for this total to grow by 32% to around 100,000 Vietnamese tourists visiting Indonesia.” Speaking on the occasion, the vice-president of Vietjet Air, Do Xuan Quang, said he was very proud that his airline that operates 116 domestic and international routes is the first airline to operate directly between Ho Chi Minh City and Bali.

“I hope that this flight will contribute to promoting international tourism and trade. With the opening of this new route, passengers from Vietnam can save their money and time when visiting the Island of Bali without transiting via other airports. At the same time, Indonesians and foreign tourists from Bali can experience the modern atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh City,” said Do Xuan Quang.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam, Ibnu Hadi, said that Bali remains a favorite destination for Vietnamese tourists. From around 76,000 Vietnamese tourists coming to Indonesia in 2018 some 20,847 visited Bali. Adding: “At this time, the condition of the Vietnamese economy is improving with many of people taking up the hobby of traveling. Bali is clearly one of their destinations. What’s more, Bali is able to spoil tourism visitors with its nature and culture. The friendliness of the people and Bali’s cuisine is also world famous.”

During its six months of initial operations to Bali, the Vietjet Ho Chi Minh City to Bali service will fly five time a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. After the initial six months, the service will increase from five to seven times a week.
