Garuda Indonesia Adding 2,495 Seats Over the Christmas – New Year’s Holidays
The Jakarta Post reports that Garuda Indonesia will add 2,495 seats on main air routes to meet anticipated additional demand over the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays.
The additional seats in the form of larger planes on existing routes or additional flight frequencies will be available between December 20, 2019, and January 6, 2020. Most additional seats, according to Garuda’s commercial director, Pikri Ilham Kurniansyah, would be achieved by utilizing wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777 and Airbus 330 on routes between Jakarta-Surabaya, Jakarta-Denpasar, and Surabaya-Denpasar.
The ability to deploy larger wide-body aircraft was limited in some instances by airport capacity, such as Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo in Flores where the airport cannot handle the larger aircraft.
Despite declining passenger numbers on domestic flights nationwide, Garuda Indonesia is estimating an increase in holiday traffic for the coming Christmas-New Year period to be 2-3% higher than last year.
