Bali Airport Installs State of the Art Inspection Device to Check Passenger, Passport, Boarding Pass, and Luggage in Record Time

The managers of Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport – PT Angkasa Pura I have inaugurated a state-of-the-art X-ray Automated Tray Return System (X-ray ATRS) that is capable of inspecting both departing and arriving passengers using advance examination technology.

As reported by BeritaDewata, the CEO of PT Angkasa Pura I (PAP-I), Faik Fahmi, said on Tuesday, September 3, 2019: “In addition to the X-Ray ATRS, we have also inaugurated a boarding pass scanner with a flap barrier; and an automated immigration gate. The use of the X-Ray ATRS and the immigration auto gate is the first of its kind in Indonesia and the materialization of PAP-I’s commitment to continually enhance customer service at the airport.”

Fahmi went on to explain that the X-Ray ATRS performs inspections in the checkpoint screening area in the international departure area in such a way that will enhance security, accuracy, and reduce the stress associated with waiting in line.

“X-Ray ATRS will also accelerate the time needed to inspect belongings and boarding passengers. If conventional x-rays are used the average is 155 trays can be processed in one hour up to a maximum of 235 trays an hour during peak periods. With the X-Ray ATRS the maximum number of trays that can be inspected increases to 410 trays per hour.

Based on trial runs conducted at the Airport over 12 separate tests conducted during both day and night time hours, the efficiency of the processing of passengers and their belonging increased 383% over the existing method. The passenger handling improvements are also hoped to assist airlines to maintain their schedule and on-time performance.

The X-Ray ATRS contain a smartview baggage content tool, explosive content detector, and a body scanner. The system installed in Bali comes with 10 work-stations and a security-efficient management system (SEMS). In a single stop outbound passengers will see passenger’s bodies, baggage, boarding pass, and passports quickly checked.

There are now 16 immigration auto gates now in operation at Bali’s Airport: 6 units at the international arrival terminal and 10 units in the international departure terminal. Passengers submitting their passports for processing need only 30 seconds to complete the process.

12 boarding pass scanners are in operation in the international departure terminal that can read both printed boarding passes of access soft files loaded onto a smartphone.
