Instant Justice Comes to Denpasar, Bali

Violator of Municipal Laws in Bali Get Tried Instantly at the Scene of the Crime

Rapid misdemeanor crime trials (Sidang Tipiring) were held in Denpasar, Bali on Monday, April 15, 2019, convened by the Denpasar Local Enforcement Agency (Satpol PP) and led by Judge IGN Putra Atmaja from the Denpasar Court.

As reported by NusaBali, the trials were held to tighten enforcement of municipal rules and regulations

18 people were immediately cited and brought before a judge for violating rules on smoking in public areas (Perda Nomor 1 Tahun 2015 and Perda Nomor 7 of 2013) and for violating rules on the improper disposal of waste and operating a hawker’s stand in a restricted area.

2 of the 18 brought to trial were charged for throwing wastes generated from the slaughter and processing of chickens into the Taman Pancing River, 1 for throwing trash away in a public place, 1 for illegally operating a mobile vendor (kaki lima) and 5 for smoking in public areas.

Different punishments were meted out by the court ranging from Rp. 1 million for disposing of chicken offal, Rp 250,000 for disposing of trash, Rp. 150,000 for smoking in a non-smoking area, Rp. 400,000 for operating an illegal hawker’s stand, and an identity card violation was fined Rp. 50,000.

Municipal authorities promised more “instant trials” at various locations in Denpasar to enhance understanding and enforcement of municipal rules and regulations.
