In anticipation of the traditional travel rush during the mid-June Lebaran holidays, the Port Master (Syahbandar) at the Ketapang, Banyuwani Port in East Java is busily checking the car and passenger ferry fleet operating to Gilimanuk across the Bali Straits.

Balipost.com reported on Monday, May 28, 2018 that the Syahbandar is inspecting all ferries to ensure they carry the necessary passenger safety certificates, are equipped with functioning safety and life-saving gear, and all crew hold valid seaman certification. The mechanical plant of each ship is also undergoing inspection.

The Syahbandar has pledged that ship found to be in bad repair or lacking in safety and security equipment will not be allowed to operate during the busy Lebaran period
