Looking Beyond Bali for Indonesian Tourism

Air Asia’s CEO Sees Indonesia’s Potential for Air Traffic Lies in Areas Beyond Bali
The CEO of Air Asia Group, Tony Fernandes, proclaimed that the tourism potential of Indonesia was expanding rapidly and was no longer tied to the traditional view that the Republic’s tourism potential was inextricably linked with only Bali.

As reported by Kompas.com, Fernandes said that in terms of air travel it was no longer only a story of Bali, citing rapid growth in air traffic from other destinations such as Bandung, Yogyakarta and Medan,

The Air Asia CEO’s comments were made a celebrations marking the 500thmillion passenger carried by Air Asia in Bangkok, Thailand on Tuesday, May15, 2018.

Fernandes said that the best way to promote national tourism is through the improvement of air connectivity. He said this had been demonstrated with Air Asia operation in Bandung, West Java where there are now flights Bandung-Kuala Lumpur and Bandung-Johor Baru. He said the surge in Bandung air traffic was also linked to improve airport facilities.

In celebrating the uplift of Air Asia's 500th million passenger in 16 years of operations, Tony Fernandes paid special homage to Indonesia’s contribution to Air Asia’s success.

He pledged that his airline will continue to open new routes under its ASEAN Single Destination program.
