Garuda Indonesia Showcases National Fashion Designers at 30,000 Feet
The national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia operates an innovate program that invites one of the Country’s leading fashion designers once every 3-4 months to try his or her hand at designing the uniform worn by its flight crew.
The latest design now appearing on Garuda flights comes from the company Puspa Nusantara created by renowned designer Didiet Maulana who has incorporated the use of Indonesian traditional weaving in his final products.
Puspa Nusantara has a reputation in the national fashion community for championing the “Kebaya Kartini” an elegant traditional form of dress for Indonesian women with a touch of “Peranakan Elegance” - reflecting the taste and styles introduced by the Country’s non-indigenous settlers.
The new uniforms fashioned by Didiet Maulana feature handmade textiles created by some 50 cottage industry workers from Bali and Jogjakarta.
These striking designs will only be seen on selected Garuda Indonesia flights starting from October 18, 2019.
