Praying for a Successful World Bank Conference

Mass Rally Held in Denpasar to Pledge Support and Solidarity in Making IMF-World Bank Conference a Success

Praying and declaring “Bali Welcomes the Annual Meeting of IMF-WB 2018” a mass gathering was held at the Monument of the Peoples’ Struggle Bajra Sandhi at the Puputan Margarana Field in Denpasar on Friday afternoon, September 28, 2018.

Bali’s Governor Wayan Koster used the occasion to call on all on Island residents to demonstrate to the world that “Bali is the Best”.

As reported by NusaBali, a mass prayer ceremony and rally in support of a success IMF-WB 2018 Conferece took place on Friday at 5:00 pm with the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Bali Chief of Police General Petrus Reinhard Golose, and the Head of the Udayana Military Command Major General Benny Susianto in attendance. 

The late afternoon rally saw religious representatives from across a broad cross-sector of Balinese society take turns declaring their commitment to safeguard the safety and security of the Island. All in attendance pledged to support a declaration read by the head of Bali's largest Hindu organization (PHDI-Bali), IGN Sudiana, to join forces in keeping Bali safe and peaceful during the conference period 8-14 October 2018.

The rally drew a crowd estimated at 2,000 and forms part of efforts to form a strong consensus in Bali to make the largest international conference ever held on the Island a complete success.

The Governor underlined that the IMF-World Bank Conference has brought many “direct and indirect” benefits to Bali in the form of infrastructure improvement that include the Underpass at the entrance to the Bali Airport, enhancements to Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport, the completion of the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Monument and the revamping of the TPA Suwung rubbish dump.

Continuing, the Governor said the Conference would fuel growth in the Island’s economy and promote Bali tourism to the world.
