A 35-year-old Australian man, Robert Isaac Emmanuel, found guilty of narcotics possession received the relatively mild sentence of confinement to a 15-month rehabilitation program in Bali from the Denpasar Court on Wednesday, April 11, 2018.

Perhaps signaling a change of direction in narcotic’s conviction penalties in Bali, Courts have recently handed down similar rehabilitative sentences to Australian Joshua James and Malaysia Chan Heng Joon.

Beritabali.com reports that Emmanuel expressed his thanks to the Court for acknowledging his drug problem needed treatment and not prison time.

The Australian was arrested with 14 grams of methamphetamines and 15 ecstasy pills that he carried from Thailand to Bali when he was arrested on December 4, 2017 at Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport.
