Rising Out of the Ashes

Two Years After Being Destroyed by Fire, New Badung Market Set to Open on December 20, 2018
The second phase of the rebuilding the Badung Market on Jalan Gajah Mada in Denpasar was commenced on Friday, May 11, 2018 , with the signing of a works contract valued at Rp. 61.8 billion.

The second phase of construction will be completed by December 20, 2018.

As reported by NusaBali, the rebuilt Badung market will be equipped with 5 elevators and 10 escalators, connecting the 5 floors of the central market.

Officials are expressing their hopes that the new marketplace will be a modern and clean shopping option for both traders and shoppers when it opens its doors on December 20, 2018.

Prior to the fire two years ago that destroyed the old Badung market, a total of 1,698 traders conducted their business from the traditional market. The new market has been constructed to serve at least an equal number of shopping kiosks.

The new market will allocate separate areas for the sale of meat, produce, clothing and dry goods.

The new Badung Market will cover 6 floors (including a basement area) with space for 1,740 kiosks. Parking for 128 cars and 23 small trucks will also be available.
