Rules of Love in Bali Remain Unchanged in Bali

Provincial Government of Bali Publishes Clarification on International Reports that Extramarital Sexual Relations was Soon to be Outlawed in Indonesia

The Deputy Governor of Bali, Tjok Oka Artha Ardhana Sukawati, issued an official statement on Sunday, September 22, 2019, regarding widespread press coverage in the international press that Indonesia was about to promulgate a change in the criminal code outlawing extramarital sexual relations by both Indonesian nationals and foreigner staying in the Republic.

In response, the Deputy Governor statement clarified that the proposed change in the criminal code was still a proposal and had yet to be implemented.

Moreover, based on input from various elements of Indonesian society, the President of the Republic and the National House of Representatives (DPR-RI) have agreed to indefinitely postpone any ratification of the proposed new criminal code.

Because not change in the criminal code, particularly as regards sexual relations, has yet to be made and no imminent changes expected in the near future, the Deputy Governor of Bali called on tourists and tourism operators to remain calm and continue tourism visits and other activities as in the past.
