21 green turtles (Chelonia mydas) confiscated as evidence in the illegal game trade in Bali were released back into the oceans by police in Jembrana, West Bali on Thursday, June 7, 2018, two days after police took the reptiles into custody on Perancak Beach.

Beritabali.com reports that the “return to the sea” release was witnessed by the Regent of Jembrana, I Putu Artha,  members of the Coordinating Forum for Jembrana Leadership (Forkopinda), and the Bali Conservation and Natural Resources Agency (BKSDA)

At the release ceremony, Artha called on the people of Jembrana to make sure the turtle trade in the regency has ended once and for all.
