Local Man Beaten by Members of Foreign Motorcycle Gang on New Year’s Eve at 'Place 2 Be Bar' Pub in Sanur, Bali

The normally calm and sedate atmosphere of Bali’s tourist area of Sanur was disrupted in the early hours of Tuesday, New Year’s Day when a brawl broke out at The Place 2 Be Bar at Jalan Danau Poso No.53.

The incident occurred at 2:30 am when Yulus Paulus Riry (51) - a heavily tattooed man who is believed to be a member of local motorcycle club was rushed to a nearby hospital after a group of men attacked him in the bar.

As reported by Radar Bali, the men who beat Riry were believed to be members of foreign motorcycle club.

Riry, accepting an invitation from friends, arrived late at The Place 2 Be Bar due to heavy traffic on New Year’s Eve only to find his friends had moved on to another location. The victim met and chatted with the president of a local motorcycle club. Police say that a foreigner joined the two men’s conversation. The foreigner was said to be wearing a jacket identifying him as a member of Bali motorcycle gang.

Shortly after refusing a drink offered by the foreigner, a member of the rival motorcycle club shoved Riry, sending him and his drink to the floor. The Indonesian man was then set upon by 6 or 7 men who proceeded to beat him.

Riry tried to defend himself and attempted to leave the scene as the group continued their beating.

Fortunately, a passing police patrol quickly arrived at the scene and stopped the altercation.

Riry - who suffered facial bruises, a cut lip, and abrasion to his knee and thigh – has filed a criminal complaint against his attacker at the South Denpasar Police Precinct.

Police state they are encountering difficulties in seeking statements from witnesses who were heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
