German Tourist Escapes Death Sentence, Getting 10 Years for Smuggling More than 2 Kilograms of Hashish into Bali
The State News Agency Antara reports that a German Nation, Frank Zeidler (56), has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possessing, 2,105 grams of hashish.
The sentence was handed down on Thursday, June 13, 2019, together with a fine of Rp. 2 billion.
Zeidler’s concealment of more than 2 kilograms of hashish in his luggage was in violation of Indonesia’s anti-narcotics law of 2009. The drugs were discovered during the X-ray evaluation of the German’s luggage hidden in the lining of the bag.
Based on the quantity of narcotics found in the German’s possession the Court, at its discretion, could have imposed the death sentence on the German. Prosecutors, meanwhile, had demanded a 15 year sentence, 5 years more than the punishment rendered by the court.
