Bali’s Largest Rubbish Tip Catches Fire, Again

Bali’s largest rubbish dump – TPA Suwung (Sabargita) in South Denpasar once again caught on fire on Friday, October 25, 2019, producing large clouds of odiferous smoke over residential areas at Banjar Pesanggaran.

A large group of fire-fighting personnel from the Denpasar Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD-Denpasar) together with nine fire trucks were sent to the location to fight the fire.

The flames fed by methane gas emitted from the towering heap of trash made it difficult to extinguish the fire that continued to smolder throughout the weekend.

As reported by DenPost, the fire burnt over a 2-hectare-wide area at the TPA Suwung where the Government is trying to create a methane gas-powered generating system.
