Local Runner Dies at Finish Line During Maybank Bali Marathon 2018
A 50-year-old man, Denny Handayono, died while participating in the Maybank Bali Marathon on Sunday, September 9, 2018, when he collapse just 100-meters from the finish line while competing in the 10-kilomter event. Handayono, originally from Jakarta, work at a division of Bank Mandiri in Denpasar.
Wearing the bib number #90886, Handoyo received immediate attention from an Indonesian Red Cross Team who administered oxygen and transported the man by ambulance to the nearby Kasih Ibu Hospital in Saba Village.
Balipost.com reports the man, suspected to have suffered a heart attack, arrived at the hospital with no discernable pulse where he received resucitative treatment for 30-minutes before being pronounced dead.
Dr. Ngurah Buana of the Kasih Ibu Hospital told the press that 5 patients were treated, including Handayono. Other patients include a Malaysian runner who broke a leg after being chased by a dog along the race route and svereal athletes suffering from heat exhaustion.
