Virgin Australia Commences 3X Week Darwin – Bali Flights
On Wednesday evening, April 10, 2019, 131 passengers flying from Darwin in northwest Australia landed in Bali on the inaugural Virgin Australia flight from Darwin, restarting a service abandoned in 2015.
Judi Rifajantoro, an expert in air connectivity at the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, joined the inaugural flight boarding in Darwin together with regional marketing staff from the Ministry.
Also on hand to welcome the flight in Bali were Elfi Amir, the head of the Airport Authority for District IV; Haruman Sulaksonso, the general manager in Bali for PT Angkasa Pura I; Himawan Indarjon, the head of the Customs Office (Type A) in Bali; Irwam Sufiandi, general manager for GMF AeroAsia; and the CEO PT Jasa Angkasa Semesta, Ajo Gunawan.
Guests disembarking the inaugural flight were welcomed with floral leis, goodie bags from the Ministry of Tourism, pieces of a welcoming cake, and canapés. The welcoming reception featuring a Balinese gamelan and dancers was held in the International Arrival Hall at Bali’s airport.
Speaking to those attending the reception, Judi Rifajantoro shared his pleasure in being allowed to welcome the new flight. The Tourism Ministry Official that the new Virgin Australia route will be a success, especially when considering the new flight is only 2.5 hours in duration.
“The presence of Virgin Australia flying from Darwin represents an important moment. The momentum created by this new flight will bring many positive benefits, especially for tourism on the Island of the Gods,” concluded Rifajantoro.
The operation of the new flight is being trialed initially at only 3 times a week (Wednesday, Friday, and Sundays) during a short season from April 10th until October 20, 2019.
With the new Virgin Australia flights a total 1,000 additional “full service” seats per week from Australia are now available for visitors to Bali. Ticket prices on the new route vary, during the first four days of operations from April 10-14, 2019. Advance sale one-way tickets on the first four days of operation were sold for AUD 169. For the period May 5-June 23 and July 21 – September 22, 2019, an advance sale round-trip ticket sold for AUD 299.
The schedule for the new Virgin Australia flight will leave Darwin at 9:00 pm arriving in Bali at 10:20 pm. The return flight leaves Bali at 3:45 pm landing in Darwin at 8:00 pm. All times are local.
