LAUDA AIR COMMENCES OPERATIONS TO BALI
On Thursday, April 23, Lauda Air inaugurated its once
weekly service between Vienna and Denpasar using a Boeing 676-300 aircraft
with a total passenger capacity of 166 passengers. On hand to welcome
the 145 passengers flying in on the new Lauda service last Thursday were
the chief of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office and representatives from
various departments of related government agencies.

CATHAY ADDS FLIGHTS
Cathay Pacific has added two more weekly non-stop
flights from Hong Kong to Denpasar, bringing daily Airbus A330-300 service

BETTER HEALTH SERVICE
FOR BALI TOURISTS
Bali Governor Ida Bagus Oka has welcomed plans for
Denpasar's Sanglah Hospital to establish a special clinic for foreign
tourists. "It's appropriate for Bali, as the largest tourist region in
Indonesia, to have an exemplary health service centre for foreign tourists,"
said Governor Oka. "Such a clinic would remove any question about health
facilities on the island," he said.
ITT SHERATON PROMOTES
ITT Sheraton Hotel & Resorts has developed a computer
program to promote Indonesia's tourist destinations with interactive multimedia.
Designed to help promote its 13 hotels in Indonesia - two of which are
in Bali - the US$ 25,000 Sheraton Multimedia program offers 20 languages,
including Russian, Mandarin and Japanese. It incorporates still and video
images with interactive sites focusing on Indonesia. It is the first
version available in Asia.

Bali's Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association
has called for an international seaport to be established on the island's
north coast to cater to marine tourism. IHRA Bali Chairman, I Gde Wirata
said such a port would increase income in surrounding communities which
have not enjoyed the economic benefits of tourism brings to the island's

Saturday services from Brisbane, Sydney and Perth to Denpasar. Load factors
were 95 per cent, with Australians flocking to Indonesia to take advantage
of strong value of the Australian dollar to the Indonesian Rupiah, accommodation
and shopping bargains. Additional flights added for school holidays are
already full. For the Bali to Australia sector, ANSETT offers US$370 return
fare from Denpasar to Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide. This special
fare expires May 30.
OBEROI CUTS RATES
The Oberoi, Bali and The Oberoi, Lombok have reduced
all rates between 12 and 20 percent in Bali ad 20 to 30 per cent in Lombok
for the remainder of 1998.
