BALI UPDATE # 067 - 13 AUGUST 1998
"NASI BUNGKUS" WITH JOOP AVE
BALI PROMO has invited the former Minister of Tourism
and current special Presidential Advisor on Tourism and Culture, Mr. Joop
Ave, to Bali to meet and exchange ideas with the local travel industry.
Mr. Ave will appear on the Hotel Radden (formerly
the Park Royal) starting at 1000 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, followed
by a very informal "Nasi Bungkus" lunch at the hotel. For the uninitiated,
"Nasi Bungkus" is a very simple and very delicious local lunch. Imagine,
if you will, a lunch pail made out of banana leaves.
'Nasi Bungkus," coffee, tea, and the opportunity
to hear the always interesting Mr. Ave for only Rp. 15,000 per person.
A cash bar will be available prior to lunch.
Three cheers to BALI PROMO for inviting Mr. Ave to
Bali and for making the lunch so affordable that all interested members
of the travel industry should be able to attend this event.
BALI PROMO has learnt that several U.S. military
ships will be passing through Bali over the coming few months. These troop
visits can range from as few as 50 soldiers to an average 350.
If any restaurants, hotels, and attractions would
like to extend a special offer to U.S. government personnel during these
visits, BALI PROMO will forward those special offers by e-mail to the
ships. It is suggested that those interested design a truly attractive
offer available only to visitors able to present a military identification
Local businesses are urged to take this opportunity
to increase business via this BALI PROMO initiative.
So, welcome the soldiers by making a special offer
that will make them feel truly welcome on the island. Send the details
of your offer to <email@example.com>.
OFF SEASON VALUE
Lynn Fullman of Meeting Professional Magazine, a magazine
for international meeting planners, is writing an article on "Resort Value."
Lynn is looking for destinations and/or resorts that
are a grand value in off-season. She is particularly interested in places
that offer more than just a reduced room rate and anyone with packages/
perks attractive to off-season meeting planners. The article is scheduled
for publication in November 1998 and her editorial deadline is late August.
BALI AND INDONESIA :
JULY / AUGUST EDITION OF "ISLANDS"
The July/August edition of the prestigious U.S. travel
magazine "ISLANDS" has published a special collectors edition for the
U.S. Summer entitled "In Search of Endless Summer."
Readers are urged to secure a copy of this special
edition in which Indonesia is highlighted in 3 articles. An article on
Bali focuses on the life of traditional musicians in Ubud; an article
titled "Lost Islands" visits the Riau archipelago; and "The Rarest Rhino"

SPONSORS SOUGHT FOR
BALI SKAL CLUB BALL
This newsletter has already advised its readers of
the gala "Second Annual Skal Club Ball" to be held on September 5th 1998.
The committee has selected the spectacular environs of "The Hard Rock
Beach Club" for a "Tropicana Beach Ball" with poolside dining, and dancing
in the sand, beneath the equatorial full moon.
This is the second time this event has been staged
in Bali and last year more than $18,000 in funds were collected for deserving
local charities. Last year's benefactors included the Wisnu Foundation,
Bali's Tourism University, forty-five children at the Balai Selamtan
Orphanage, and over one hundred and twenty individual children at three
different orphanages in Bali.
In light of Indonesia's recent economic turmoil,
the need for generous support from the community for these and other charities
is greater than ever. Sponsors for door and raffles prizes are being sought
who will have the opportunity to simultaneously support important work
in Bali and gain important exposure to the more than 350 travel professionals
expected to attend this event.
Contact Michael Cortenbach, one of the Ball's coordinators
at telephone 62 (0)361 724 062 or facsimile 62 (0)361 720 334.Overseas
sponsors of cash donations or prizes are welcome!
