10-Day Bali Charity Trek April 2-11, 2021

Bali Charity Walks Organized by BaliCore

A new local umbrella charity organization –BaliCore has embarked on operating a Covid-19 Relief Expedition powered by a small and dedicated group of volunteers who hope to raise funds for rural communities across the Island who the ongoing pandemic has impacted.

To reach their goal, BaliCore is organizing an inaugural, coast-to-coast walking expedition through the heart of Bali from April 2 – 11, 2021.

The cessation of international travel since March 2020 has had a devastating effect on the livelihood of the people living in Bali. 80% of the Island’s population depends, directly or indirectly, on tourism. Meanwhile, many hotels, restaurants, tour companies, and retail outlets have been forced to close. Millions of hard-working Balinese have lost their livelihoods or are living on fractional wages.

The BaliCore Team wishes to raise the world’s awareness of the plight of the people of Bali and share the news that nearly twelve months into the pandemic, there is growing evidence of hunger and malnutrition.

During the planned 10-day walk, participants will venture off the beaten track by crossing Bali’s hinterlands traversing the Island’s traditional regions that remain untouched by development and mass tourism. From Tanah Lot to Candidasa in East Bali, the expedition will comply with COVID-19 safety protocols along the way. The route is being finalized by idGuides – community trail development specialists, in partnership with local communities. The proposed trek will pass through Kerambitan, Penebel, Buahan, Penglipuran, Tegallalang, Undisan, Besakih, Sebudi, Sibeten, and Tengganan.

After the epic walk is completed, BaliCore will share the people’s stories from these regions in a series of social documentaries titled “People of Bali” on BaliCore’s social media.

BaliCore aims to raise more than US$ 20,000 from donors worldwide. The funds will be used to assist in developing sustainable farming efforts, bolster the supply of food & essentials to outlying communities until international tourism resumes, and increase the capacity of critical feeding and medical services for Bali’s stray dogs.

BaliCore has partnered with five non-profit foundations in Bali known for their support of diversified worthy causes, namely:

· Solemen Indonesia

· Scholars of Sustenance

· Kopernik

· Social Impakt

· Bali Animal Welfare Association

Amounts raised over US$ 20,000 will be divided among worthwhile community groups in Bali struggling to survive.
