AirAsia directly connects the Island of Bali to Phuket in southern Thailand and Kota Kinabalu on the Island of Borneo in Malaysia.
The Phuket-Bali air corridor opened with an inaugural AirAsia flight on Saturday, 10 August 2024; the Kota Kinabalu-Denpasar route operated by AirAsia commenced service on 09 August 2024.
AirAsia’s two new routes from Phuket and Kota Kinabalu are seen as opportunities to explore new markets for Bali tourism and enhance the Island’s tourism arrivals.

Indonesia AirAsia CEO Veranita Yosephine has lauded the new air routes as underlining the potential central role of Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport as an important ASEAN Air Hub. Bali is a world-famous destination for its natural beauty and rich culture.
Veranita explained that since Indonesia AirAsia opened the Jakarta-Kota Kinabalu route last February, the traveling public has enthusiastically received the service. From February until March 2024, occupancy on this new route exceeded more than 94%. Because of this success, Indonesia AirAsia has strategically added the new Kota Kinabalu—Bali service.
Passengers flying AirAsia should remember that standard tickets only permit 7 kilograms of carry-on luggage, while checked luggage is transported at an additional charge, which can be purchased online or paid at the airport.
