The Australian Airline Airnorth will fly between Darwin and Lombok in West Nusa Tenggara starting 04 April 2025. Lombok Airport Manager Arif Haryanto confirmed that Airnorth will fly between Lombok and Darwin twice weekly.
“Beginning 05 May 2025, the new flight service will operate every Friday and Sunday,” said Arif, quoted by IDN Times on Saturday, 25 January 2025.
The new international air connection to Lombok has been in preparation since February 2024 but has been delayed while awaiting regulatory approval. The delay is attributed to bilateral rules from Australia and the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation that limit the total number of flights connecting the two countries. The maximum quota on flights from Australia to Indonesia is full, with flights from Indonesia to Australia depicted as limited due to the number of aircraft available.
Airnorth surveyed and certified the Lombok International Airport on 23 February 2024. The findings of that survey verified that Lombok’s Airport was ready for international flight operations. The Airport’s apron has been enlarged from 108,100 square meters to 136,300 square meters, capable of handling 16 aircraft (6 wide-body and 10 narrow-body). Lombok’s runway has been lengthened to 3,300 meters, up from its former length of 2,750 meters. The longer runway can now accommodate Boeing 777 Aircraft.
Leading up to the arrival of Airnorth, Lombok International Airport currently serves two international routes operated by Scoot from Singapore twice weekly, and AirAsia and Batik Air Malaysia flying from Kuala Lumpur.
Lombok is also experiencing an increase in domestic flights. Super Air Jet will commence flights between Banjarmasin and Lombok on 21 February 2025.
Pelita Air, NAM Air, and Citilink will add domestic flights on 30 March 2025. Pelita Air plans to fly daily to Lombok from Surabaya. NAM Air will also fly daily on a new route in two directions: Jakarta- Lombok – Bima. Citilink will add flights from Surabaya – to Lombok, increasing their thrice weekly flights to daily operations.
