The art of Alex Florschutz, an internationally exhibited British artist, author and curator whose career spans more than three decades and over 100 exhibitions, from the Venice Biennale to the House of Commons, is the focus of a solo exhibition at Ubud, Bali’s INDUS Art Space – Ubud until 30 November.
Uniquely, Alex Florschutz is a registered art psychotherapist. She founded Zero2 Expo, an art and science initiative for child health that was positively reviewed by the prestigious UK medical journal The Lancet. In addition to being a gifted painter, Florschutz is also a bestselling author whose books include the bestselling Irresistible Birth and the literary novella Mad Enough to Love You: Desire.
Traveling between bases in Bali and the UK, Alex Florschutz explores how art can awaken awareness and change lives where creativity, health, and human experience meet through painting, writing, and advocacy.
In Florschutz’s words: “The feminine, birth, sexuality, nature, and creativity have long inspired my artistic journey. I approach painting as both a meditation and an act of love, born of freedom.”
Through 30 November 2026, INDUS Art Space presents Alchemy of the Soul – an evocative exhibition of 14 new paintings and translucent installations that invite visitors to explore the relationship between the visible world and their inner lives. At the heart of nearly every work is a source of light, breaking through deep blues and darkness, rising from water, unfolding from a flower, glowing from the heart or the womb. The works explore transformation: the quiet alchemy by which light, warmth, and love soften what has hardened. Drawing on enduring themes of the feminine, birth, sexuality, nature and creativity, forms emerge, dissolve and reappear, inviting the viewer’s imagination to participate in what is seen.
In addition to conventional paintings on canvas, selected works at the Ubud exhibition are printed on suspended panels of translucent chiffon, allowing light to pass through the images and visitors to walk among them. The installation also features a fire lotus image developed with AI assistance, which served as an early visual touchstone for the series.
The paintings on display offer no fixed narrative. Instead, they invite a slower kind of looking, engaging feeling and intuition as much as intellect. The exhibition is underpinned by the belief that the spiritual can find expression in the material world.
The exhibition is also accompanied by a short video work reflecting on the making of the series. Ultimately, Alchemy of the Soul is not simply an exhibition to be viewed, but an invitation to experience something beyond what is immediately visible.
Admission to the exhibition is free. Works are available for purchase.
