Beritabali.com reports that a 49-year-old American has drowned in the waters of Gili Trawangan, the island group northwest of Lombok.
The body of Tyeson Cluff (49) was found by a Search and Rescue (SAR) Worker submerged at a depth of 21 meters off Gili Trawangan on Monday, 20 February 2023.
The head of the SAR office in Mataram, Lombok, Lalu Wahyu Efendi, said Cluff went missing while diving on Sunday, 19 February. “He was found on the second day of the search at 8:08 am – 0.93 nautical miles from where he was last seen,” said Wahyu.
A diver from Dream Dive helped to locate the diver’s body and was immediately evacuated to Bangsal Harbor, where the remains were handed to a medical team. The body was found on the ocean floor wearing complete diving gear and taken to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Lombok.
A guide from Dream Dive Center said he was diving with Cluff on Sunday at around 2:30 pm at Shark Point off the north shore of Gili Trawangan. He became separated from the American at a depth of 15 meters while the guide was busy assisting other divers in the group. He said he last saw Cluff ascending to the surface.
The guide said he marked the location with a Surface Marker Buoy and marked off a 360-degree search area when Cluff did not reappear.
As the sun set and visibility decreased, the search for the man was suspended until the following morning, when the American’s body was recovered.
Tyeson Ray Cluff (49) resided in Pheonix, Arizona. He is survived by a brother, E. Todd Cluff of Evaston, and his parents, W, Eldon Cluff and Shirley Cluff – all of Evanston, Wyoming
