A 55-year-old Australian woman, Bell Alex Endra Lindsay, was briefly taken into custody by police who brought her to a Bali hospital after allegedly running amok in the lobby of the Casa Dasa Hotel on Jalan Nakula in Legian, Seminyak on Wednesday, 01 July 2027.
Lindsay is reportedly a former long-term resident of Indonesia, having managed a small hotel on the island of Sumbawa.
Initially, thought to be intoxicated, but subsequent reports suggest Lindsay may have suffered a psychotic break connected to an existing psychological condition.
According to news.com.au, Kompas, and other news widely reported in the local press in Bali, concerns were raised, and police summoned when Lindsay was observed wandering the hotel lobby, yelling at workers and guests.
As reported by BeritaBali, Inspector Gede Adhi Saputra Jaya said police arrived at the scene after receiving telephone reports about the woman’s behavior via the Police Call Center 110. The caller told police that a female foreign national, suspected by the caller to be intoxicated, was raising a ruckus at the Legian Boutique Hotel.
A police supervisor from the Kuta Precinct, Commission I Wayan Suartawan, accompanied by members of the Legian Community Enforcement Agency (Satpol PP Legian), arrived at the hotel at 4:35 am, where they coordinated a response with the hotel’s Front desk and hotel security,
The hotel told police that the Australian was disturbing guests as she wildly roamed the lobby, screaming at guests and staff.
Police say that when Lindsay saw uniformed officers at the hotel, she ceased creating a disturbance. She reportedly promised the hotel and the police that she would refrain from causing further disturbances.
The hotel’s management thanked the police for their prompt intervention, which helped restore good order at the hotel.
However, videos displayed on local social media and reports on News.com.au depicted Lindsay “growing increasingly agitated” as she was being restrained and handcuffed by police. Angry that her apprehension was being recorded on handphones, she reportedly yelled, “Stop filming me right now.”
Police, operating in accordance with standard procedures for handling people suspected of suffering psychotic episodes, delivered Lindsay to Bali’s Ngoerah General Hospital for further care.
