A memorable musical soiree of classical music awaits those attending the “Bach and Beyond” classical concert scheduled for Sunday, 09 March 2025, at the Dharma Negara Alaya (DNA Art & Creative Hub Denpasar).
The evening is presented by Bali Chamber Music Players – a group of dedicated professional classical musicians, talented students, and educators based in Bali.
Bali Chamber Music Players will be joined by featured guest artists and ensembles that include:
Edith Widayani (harpsichord) is one of Indonesia’s most accomplished keyboard artists. Dr. Edith Widayani has impressed audiences while gracing performance stages in North, South, Central America, Europe, and Asia.
Edith has earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Performance and Literature with double minors in Chamber Music/Collaborative Piano and Music Theory from the Eastman School of Music. While enrolled at Eastman, Edith Widayani mastered harpsichord performance, exploring both the vocal and instrumental compositions from the Baroque Period.
Edith has recorded two well-received albums, “Imagination” and “Memories,” in her relentless aim to make classical music more accessible to the general public.
She has undertaken an international performance schedule and participated in competitions in Indonesia, Spain, and the USA. Honduras, Mexico, and Columbia.
Ryan Limanto (flute) – Born in 1999, Ryan Limanto was attracted to becoming a flutist and a saxophonist from an early age. In 2017, the world-renowned Spain-based Indonesian pianist-composer Ananda Sukarlan invited Ryan to perform in a special concert prepared for President B.J. Habibe. He also joined the 100th Anniversary of Leonard Bernstein and the 250th Anniversary of Beethoven, performing with the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra.
Ryan Rianto has earned a Master’s degree from West Virginia University (USA), mentored by Nina Assimakopoulos. Currently fulfilling performance engagements in Jakarta, working with the JakFlute Ensemble, Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra, and Jakarta Sinfonietta.
Ryan has performed internationally in Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Australia.
Shienny Kurniawati (violin) is a founding member of the highly-respected String Orchestra of Surabaya. The Beijing’s Central Conservatory of Music graduate now works as a professional violinist, harpist, and music educator with a special focus on the seldom-heard Baroque harpsichord.
Accordingly, the one-night performance in Bali will shine a special spotlight on the historic and captivating sounds of the harpsichord. This instrument harkens back to the splendor of the Baroque era, representing a first-time experience for many Bali concertgoers.
The Evening’s Program
A diverse concert program begins with several compositions of J.S. Bach, culminating with J.S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 5. In the second half of the evening’s program, the compositions will transcend geographical boundaries presenting Bartok’s Romanian Dances and the contemporary resonance of ‘Asphyxia’ by Nicole Chamberlain. The simplistic and moving beauty of John Rutter’s “For the Beauty of the Earth” is not to be missed, performed in collaboration with the Bali Children and Teens Choir.
