Indonesia Air Asia will commence flying between Denpasar, Bali, and Cairns, Australia, on 14 August 2024.
The CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, Veranita Josephine, said, “Cairns has much to offer our millions of guests from Bali and across Asia with stunning views of the world-famous Great Barrier Reef.” Quoted by Kompas.com, Yosephine said: “The opening of this flight route,” she continued, “could open up opportunities for residents of Cairns and surrounding cities, such as Mackay and Townsville, to fly to Bali. Even though Bali is one of Australia’s favorite tourist destinations, Indonesia has many other destinations. Among them are Labuan Bajo, Komodo Island, Tanjung Setia Surf Beach in Lampung, and the new capital of Indonesia in East Kalimantan.”
The Bali—Cairns flight will operate three times each week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Veranita said she hopes the frequency of the flights connecting the two cities will increase over time as demand also increases.
Tickets were available online starting from Thursday, 06 June 2024.
Flight Schedule
QZ 542 from Denpasar to Cairns departs at 23:45 hours, arriving in Cairns at 06:25 local time. The return flight from Cairns QZ 543 will depart from Cairns at 07:05 hours, landing in Bali at 09:45 hours local time.
The Indonesian Consul General in Sydney, Vedi Kurnia Buana, has voiced his support for the new Indonesian AirAsia service linking Cairns and Bali. “We appreciate Indonesia AirAsia’s efforts in supporting the growth of the tourism industry and expanding connectivity between Indonesia and Australia through direct flights connecting Bali with Cairns,” Vedi said.
Vedi said that in 2023, Indonesia welcomed around 1.37 million Australian tourists, with Bali as the most popular destination. He added that the opening of this new route is expected to strengthen relations between Indonesia and Australia and open opportunities for tourists from Cairns to explore other tourist destinations in Indonesia.
Queensland Tourism Minister Michael Healy, commented on Friday, 07 June 2024: “The Far North (of Australia) remains the main destination for visitors who want to see how much Queensland has to offer,”
Australians dominated foreigners traveling to Bali in 2024, representing 24.28% of all foreign arrivals. “We also believe this new route will open up greater opportunities to establish cooperation and strengthen relations between the two countries,” said Healy.
