Bali Airport ISO Energy Saving Measures

NusaBali.com reports that Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport has introduced an ISO 50001:2018-based system for energy conservation and management to minimize the environmental footprint of the Island’s sole air gateway.

Faik Fahmi, the CEO of PT Angkasa Pura I, the company that manages Bali’s Airport, commented: “Angkasa Pura I is committed to making a positive contribution to the natural environment with this fact representing a core mission of the company. Energy conservation through the implementation of an energy management system and the use of renewable energy at the airport is a manifestation of the implementation of the company’s mission.”

Faik Fahmi continued, saying on Sunday, 08 August 2021: “At this time, the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport is a pioneering airport operated by Angkasa Pura in its implementation of The Energy Management System ISO 50001:2018, and it is hoped that other airports we manage can also follow this program.”

Faik explained that the new energy management system was introduced at Bali’s Aiport in February 2021, as the result of a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2020 between Angkasa Pura I, the Director-General of New Energy Sources from the Directorate of Energy Conservation, and the Director-General of Energy Conservation from the Ministry for Energy and Natural Resources.

Ngurah Rai Airport’s active participation in the energy management system is intended to reduce gas emissions that contribute to the global greenhouse effect.

Angkasa Pura I projects that the energy conservation measures will reduce power consumption by 3,627,686 KWh worth Rp. 4,309,691,285. As a result of the program, the airport will reduce CO2 emissions in 2021 by 2,866 tons.

Among the energy conservation steps in place at Bali’s Airport is the use, whenever possible, of solar energy, lighting powered by solar cells, the use of LED lighting, and the deployment of many energy-saving devices in the day-to-day operation of the air gateway.
