Bali Extends Clampdown Until 08 February

On Sunday, 24 January 2021, Bali’sBali’s Governor Wayan Koster quickly called together a meeting of Denpasar’s mayor, Gianyar’s, and the Regents of Badung, Klungkung, and Tabanan; the head of the Bali military Command; and the Bali Chief of Police.

The urgent meeting discussed implementing the Minister of the Interior’sInterior’s instructions to extend the period of Restrictions on Community Activities (PPKM).

As reported by Balipost.com, Governor Koster told the group that he was telephoned on Saturday, 23 January 2021, by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartanto, and the Minister of the Interior Tito Karnavian, regarding the extension of the current PPKM in Bali for the Sarbagitaku Area (Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, Tabanan, and Klungkung).

The latest instruction issued by the Interior Minister (Instruksi Nomor 2 Tahun 2021) extends PPKM limitations on community activities for the period 26 January until 08 February 2021.

The Interior Minister’s instructions also called on Bali’sBali’s leadership to optimize LL the activities of COVID-19 Command Posts (Posko Satgas COVID-19) on the provincial, regency, metropolitan, district, village, and neighborhood levels. The Ministerial Instructions added that all the Government’s money to combat the coronavirus is used in an accountable, transparent, and responsible manner.

Authorities in Bali were also told to “prevent and avoid” public gatherings through persuasion and, when necessary, through the enforcement of the law assisted by the local enforcement agencies (Satpol PP), the police, and the Armed Forces (TNI).
