Bali broke records of an unenviable kind were broken on Wednesday, 09 September 2020, when it logged 174 new cases of COVID-19 and a record-high 14 deaths linked to the disease.
As reported by NusaBali, the Provincial Task Force for the Mitigation of COVID-19 (GTPP) broke down the 14 deaths that occurred on Wednesday by regions as follows: Buleleng (3), Denpasar (2), Badung (2), Gianyar (2), Bangli (2), Karangasem (2), and Tabanan (1). During the course of the pandemic in Bali, Wednesday’s 14 deaths were the highest number recorded in a single day. The previous high took place just one day before on Tuesday, 08 September 2020, when twelve COVID-19 patients died.
The addition of 14 deaths on Wednesday, 09 September 2020, brings to a total of 142 deaths linked to the coronavirus in Bali.
The fatality count, widely suspected to be understated due to unreported and unrecorded COVID-19 deaths, equates to a mortality rate of 2.11% from the 6,723 recorded positive cases.
Of the 142 deaths, 140 were Indonesian nationals, and two foreign citizens. Most deaths have occurred in Denpasar (30), Badung (25), Gianyar (21), Bangli (20), Buleleng (13), Karangasem (12), Tabanan (9), Klungkung (6), Jembrana (4), and foreign nationals (2).
On Wednesday, the two deaths announced in Denpasar were a 67-year-old man from Desa Tegal Harum in West Denpasar who died on Tuesday morning at the Sanglah General Hospital, who was suffering from the co-morbidity of diabetes. On Wednesday, the other death announced was a 55-year-old woman from Desa Pandangsambian Kaja in West Denpasar that occurred on 01 September 2020.
Of the 174 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Wednesday, all are viewed as local transmission among people living in Bali. The largest number of new cases came from Denpasar, with 46 cases. In the previous two days, Denpasar recorded 36 cases on Monday and 37 cases on Tuesday.
The breakdown on new cases of from all areas of Bali on Wednesday, 09 September 2020, were Denpasar (46), Badung (37), Buleleng (27), Karangasem (26), Gianyar (16), Tabaan (14), Jembrana (4), Klungkung (1), and Bangli (0).
