Canadian Shop Thief Arrested by Bali Police

Crimes committed by foreign visitors to Bali, including petty theft, are rising. 

As reported by Radarbali.com, a recent incident of minor criminality by foreigners occurred on Thursday, 30 January 2025, at around 9:45 am when a Canadian man boldly stole jewelry items from a Sanur shop.

Canadian Christopher Boyd Young, age 43, took little care in concealing his identity or his act of open thievery when he visited the Cahaya Silver Shop on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Sanur, Bali, on 30 January 2025. 

The Canadian wasted little time when he entered the Cahaya Silver Shop, selected a silver necklace and a stone pendant, and announced to the shop‘s staff: ”Today is Chinese New Year, everything is free” as he ran from the shop, putting the stolen items in a brown bag,

The value of the stolen items has been put at Rp. 1.8 million.

Attempting to flee with his booty, Young drove away on a rented  Yamaha NMAX Motorcycle with angry residents and storekeepers in close pursuit. 

A short distance from the scene of the crime, at Banjar Batu on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Young collided with a car, causing a minor head contusion and allowing pursuing Police and residents to apprehend the long-haired Canadian,

Under interrogation, the Canadian admitted to three separate thefts.

Police in Bali have taken Christopher Young into custody for final disposition in cooperation with Indonesian criminal justice and immigration authorities.
