Kompas.com reports that the Indonesian Police are preparing new regulations regarding issuing driver’s licenses for motorcycle operators.
Police are targeting for the new rules to come into effect in August of 2021.
The rules were already agreed and signed in February 2021. The new Police Regulation No. 5 of 2021 will provide three separate motorcycle licenses categories: SIM C, SIM CI, and SIM CII.
SIM C will be for the operation of motorcycles with engine capacities of 250 cc or below.
SIM CI will apply to motorcycles with an engine capacity of 250 cc until 500 cc or electric vehicles of a corresponding size.
SIM CII will apply for motorcycles with an engine capacity greater than 500 cc or electric vehicles of a corresponding size.
Those wishing to apply for a CI or CII license will be required to have held a SIM C license for a minimum of 12 months.
Minimum Age Requirements
The minimum age requirement for applying for each class of motorcycle operating license are:
17 years of age to obtain a SIM A, SIM C, SIM D, or SIMDO.
18 years of age to obtain a SIM CI.
19 years of age to obtain a SIM CII.
