Timor-Leste, also known as East Timor, became the first new sovereign state of the 21st century in May 2002, when Indonesia relinquished control of its territory after a hard-fought independence struggle. As a result of the handshake, the Denpasar Mayor’s Office is exploring collaboration opportunities with the Timor-Leste Government across numerous sectors.
This agreement to closely cooperate follows a working visit by the Attache to the Deputy Mayor’s office.
Denpasar Deputy Mayor Arya Wibawa said the city government is open to collaboration with cities and countries worldwide to strengthen regional development through international networks.
According to Wibawa, this desire to cooperate with Timor-Leste is expected to progress to a more concrete stage, particularly in the creative economy, business, culture, and education sectors, which have significant potential for joint development.
”Currently, the Denpasar City Government is focused on exploring collaboration with various parties and cities worldwide as a step towards Denpasar’s development,” said Arya Wibawa.
Meanwhile, Apolo Justino Franca da Silva, Trade and Industry Attaché of the Consulate General of Timor-Leste in Denpasar, expressed his appreciation for the Denpasar City Government’s warm welcome and its commitment to establishing mutually beneficial cooperative relationships.
The attache is optimistic that the discussions during the meeting will mark the beginning of agreements in various fields and open up opportunities for broader collaboration in the future.
”Thank you for your extraordinary welcome, Mr. Deputy Mayor of Denpasar. We appreciate the Denpasar City Government’s steps in planning cooperation with our country,” said Apolo.
Apolo added that he hopes communication and coordination between the two parties will continue, so that the collaboration initiated can provide real benefits for the people of Denpasar and Timor-Leste.
