The Padma Musical Series presents its next much-anticipated classical musical event, “Echoes of Elegance” – an unforgettable evening of world-class classical music featuring the return of virtuoso pianist George Harliono in concert in the Indonesian debut of celebrated Australian Cellist Pei Sian.
On Saturday, 5 April 2025, this combined performance of Harliono and Pei promises a breathtaking display of artistry and bold musicianship set against the stunning backdrop of the Padma Resort Legian.
George Harliono’s piano virtuosity has made him a crowd favorite in Indonesia since his first appearance in 2023.
A much-in-demand international performing star, Harliono, a handsome performer of mixed UK-Indonesian heritage, has won 2nd prize honors at the highly-regarded International Tchaikovsky Competition—considered among the world’s most prestigious music competitions. Performing at major venues worldwide, he has achieved “superstar” status as the demand for George to play on prestigious international classical music stages has grown exponentially.
Introducing Cellist Nga Pei Sian
For this special concert on Saturday, 05 April 2025, George will be joined by the internationally renowned Ng Pei Sian – an Australian cellist of international repute. Making his Indonesian debut in Bali, Pei Sian brings an illustrious career marked by accolades, including a Gold Medal and First Prize at the Royal Overseas League Music Competition in London and the coveted title of Commonwealth Musician of the Year.
As the principal cellist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Pei Sian has enchanted audiences worldwide, collaborating with cello luminaries that include Yo-Yo Ma, Renaud Capuçon, and Alina Ibragimova.
Together, these two exceptional artists – Harliono and Pei Sian, will present a program of exquisite musical storytelling, promising an evening of unparalleled elegance and virtuosity. With George’s reputation for sold-out performances in Bali, Jakarta, and across Europe, and Pei’s established reputation from his highly anticipated debut, “Echoes of Elegance” in Bali is set to be one of the most sought-after classical music events of the year.
George Harliono
George Harliono, of mixed Indonesian-British parentage, was born in the U.K. and dubbed a “rising star” by the authoritative “Classic FM.”
In 2013, at 12, George was invited to record Beethoven’s Piano Sonata Op.2 No.1 at Southbank Center in London.
In 2016, his performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 at the Great Hall of The Moscow Conservatory was broadcast live on Russian national TV and streamed live on Medici TV.
Although only 24 years old, George Harliono is already an international superstar on the classical music stage. Geroge has performed with orchestras that include The Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, The Mariinsky Orchestra, Tatarstan National Symphony Orchestra, New Millennium Orchestra of Chicago, Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester, Tyumen Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sendai Philarmonic Orchestra. George also regularly performs alongside eminent artists and has performed with renowned conductors, including Valery Gergiev, Alexander Sladkovsky, Evgeny Shestakov, Ainars Rubikis, Anton Lubchenko, Ken Takaseki, and Sebastian Weigle.
George has been awarded prizes in numerous international competitions, including The Grand Piano Competition in Moscow, the Sendai International Music Competition, the Royal Overseas League Music Competition in London, the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition in Utah, Concourse International de Lagny-sur-Marne, and the Dinu Lipatti Piano Competition in Bucharest.
Ng Pei Sian
Ng Pei-Sian was born in Sydney. He began his classical musical training at the Elder Conservatorium of Music before winning the prestigious Elder Overseas Scholarship to study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Upon graduating, Pei-Sian was awarded the RNCM Gold Medal -the highest prize given by the college.
Ng Pei-Sian was named Commonwealth Musician of the Year in 2007, winner of the Gold Medal and First Prize at the 55th Royal Overseas League Music Competition held in London. He has performed concertos with the major Australian symphony orchestras, Singapore Symphony (SSO), Malaysian Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Estonian National Symphony, Oulu Symphony, Sinfonia ViVA, City of Southampton Orchestra, Philippine Philharmonic and the Orchestra of the Music Makers and performed around the world in venues including Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Konzerthaus (Berlin), Lincoln Centre and Carnegie Hall.
Recent carer highlights include a performance of Kalevi Aho’s Double Cello Concerto with his twin brother Ng Pei-Jee and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and also the Asian premiere of John Tavener’s Flood of Beauty with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory Orchestra under Jason Lai as part of Tapestry, A Sacred Music Festival. Recently, Pei-Sian played alongside Yo-Yo Ma and the SSO, performing the fresh and exciting double cello concerto Violoncellos Vibrez! by Giovanni Sollima.
Pei-Jee Ng, the twin brother of Ng Pei-Sian, is the Principal Cellist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Pei-Sian is currently the Principal Cellist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and performs in Bali on a rare cello: Francesco Goffriller, “ex-Daniel Müller-Schott” c.1720, Udine.
