American Lawyer Frank B. Morgan, who made his life-long home in Indonesia, has died at 86.
Balidiscovery.com has received the sad news of the death of American lawyer Frank B. Morgan, who was of legal counsel since 1971 to one of Indonesia’s most distinguished law firms – Mochtar Karuwin Komar.
During the most dynamic decades of Indonesia’s historical development, Morgan’s legal practice made significant contributions in establishing the legal architecture of Indonesia’s banking, finance, oil and gas sectors, foreign investment, mergers and acquisitions, and bankruptcy protocols.
1938-2024
Morgan’s expertise included legal counsel on litigation strategies and restructuring transactions.
An acknowledged expert in Indonesian and U.S. law matters, Morgan was named by Asia Law Practice as one of the outstanding Corporate and Merger and Acquisition Practitioners in Indonesia. Chambers Leading Lawyers also cited him as a leader in corporate and commercial matters. Morgan is listed in Euromoney’s Guide to the World’s Leading Project Finance Lawyers.
Born in Gilroy, California, on 08 September 1938, Frank Morgan earned his bachelor’s Degree from Stanford University in 1960 and his law degree from Harvard University in 1963.
After graduating from Harvard, Morgan worked with a major corporate law firm in San Francisco before relocating to Jakarta to become a seminal influence at the Mochtar Karuwin Komar (MKK) law firm in 1971.
In the ensuing half-century, MKK worked at the center of Indonesia’s modern commercial development, recruiting a legal stable of outstanding talent from the best law schools in Indonesia, the United States, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Australia, and Japan.
Morgan maintained homes in Jakarta, Bali, and California. Physically vigorous and active well into his eighth decade, friends in Bali will recall seeing a fit Frank Morgan cycling the streets of Sanur on the Island’s southeast coast.
In recent declining ill health, Frank Morgan died on 24 October 2024 in Gilroy, California.
