I Nyoman Giri Prasta, the Regent of Bali’s Southernmost and most populous Regency of Badung, has issued a memorandum extending the period of limitation on public activities to control the spread of COVID-19.
The memorandum that was signed on Tuesday, 26 January 2021, is pursuant to instructions issued by the Minister of the Interior and a memorandum from Bali’s Governor – deals with extending the period of limiting public movements and public activities.
The Badung Regency memorandum limits all public activities to 8:00 am until 8:00 pm, except for traditional markets providing essential commodities to the public and medical facilities.
The memorandum re-emphasized standing orders requiring business operators, traditional market managers, and those in charge of public places to implement strict health protocols, including limiting visitors to just 25% of maximum capacity and installing signage warning the public: “No Mask No Service.”
Individuals and business places failing to follow or enforce health protocols should expect sanctions from regional enforcement agencies. Meanwhile, health officials will be roaming through public places, administering random Rapid Tests on the public, including foreign nationals.
The latest memorandum also limits attendance at religious ceremonies and traditional rites of passage for all religions practiced in Bali to a maximum of 50 attendees.
Another section of the dame memorandum orders COVID-19 Command Posts in villages and traditional communities to lend their full support in preventing the coronavirus’s spread. They must be supported in these activities by local enforcement agency (Satpol PP), The Armed Forces (TNI), and the Police.
Villages and local communities are also assigned to monitor and evaluate measures to curtail the spread of COVID-19 and report their findings to district task Forces controlling the coronavirus.
The latest extension limiting public movements and activities cover the period 26 January until 08 February 2021. The government will consider the need for further extensions vis-à-vis the continuing course of the disease.
Bali companies must maintain a 75% ratio of employees working from home through 08 February 2021.
