Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport anticipates a flood of domestic and international passengers over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
Because Bali’s Airport saw 909,143 passengers over the year-end holiday period in 2022, officials are forecasting a 20% increase in passenger traffic for the same period in 2023, resulting in a projected 1,089,048 air travelers.
As reported by Beritablai.com, Bali’s Airport is preparing to handle a daily average of 35,000 inbound and outbound passengers, an increase over the holiday period last year when a daily average of 28,000 passengers used the airport.
International passengers will dominate, projected at 32,000 passengers per day, representing a 7% increase over the previous year.
Through November 2023, Bali’s Airport handled a daily average of 58,000 passengers on 372 plane movements.
The general manager of the Ngurah Rai International Airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, said the Christmas peak travel dates would begin on Friday, 22 December 2023, when an anticipated 72.754 passengers of 408 separate flight movements will pass through the airport. The predicted top date for New Year’s travel will be 02 January 2024, when an expected 69,237 air travelers on board 393 aircraft movements will grace Bali’s sole airport’s domestic and international air terminals.
The year-end rush of travelers to Bali will begin on Thursday, 21 December 2023, with full flights disgorging domestic and international passengers wanting to spend Christmas in Bali. This date also coincides with the start of the school holidays. In the four days preceding Christmas, the average number of arriving travelers expected through Bali’s Airport will increase from 30,000 to an increased total of 35,000-40,000.
The Airport Authority, in cooperation with relevant agencies, will establish Christmas-New Year Command Posts (Posko Pelayanan Nataru) for 16 days, commencing on 19 December 2023 until 03 January 2024. Meanwhile, Police and Armed Forces personnel will be manning special security posts set up at the entranceways to the airport.
In anticipation of the coming rush, the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation has concluded a survey and inspection visit to Bali’s Airport, declaring Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport ready for the holiday rush.
The airport’s general manager confirmed that 605 applications have been received and processed for additional flights or larger aircraft during the holiday period.
