Leading the Change
Via the Bali Charity Golf Day, Marriott Business Council Indonesia’s Bali Chapter supports the Bali Children Foundation and Sungai Watch. The Bali Children’s Foundation aims to support a specially-abled school for deaf and mute students and empower youth in Kintamani to pursue high school education and beyond. Over a two-year program, it plans to support 20 villages and 2,000 students.
Sungai Watch, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the environment from plastic pollution through innovative solutions, has operated a Waste Sorting Facility in Singaraja since 2023. Since the Facility’s inception and the ensuing 54 river cleanups organized throughout 2023, Sungai Watch has removed nearly 26.5 tons of plastic waste from the rivers, preventing it from eventually entering the ocean. Funds from this year’s fundraising initiatives will be utilized to continue the operation of this vital facility.
About Bali Children Foundation (BCF)
Since 2002, BCF has worked one village at a time to help poor, remote, or disaster-affected residents. After identifying a town that is home to pockets of disadvantaged families, BCF local staff members work with village leaders to provide scholarship opportunities. Two of the areas assisted by BCF were the Village of Songan, hit by landslides in 2017, and Lombok, where earthquakes ravaged large areas in 2018.
BCF helps fund partner charities to deliver health and dental care, disability management, and environmental protection solutions during disasters. Later, BCF awards scholarships, teaches English as a foreign language, S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), the 3 R’s (remedial reading, writing, and numeracy), and offers tertiary education opportunities.
About Sungai Watch
Founded in 2020 by Gary, Kelly, and Sam Bencheghib in Bali, Indonesia, Sungai Watch is a team of more than 100 passionate “river warriors” who work every day to create solutions to stop the flow of plastic pollution into surrounding oceans. The group aims to install 1,000 barriers on Indonesia’s most polluted rivers.
