NusaBali has published an interim report demonstrating that ferry traffic between East Java and Bali has reduced markedly during the 2020 year-end holiday period.
In the seven days ending on 25 December 2020, 96,962 passengers traveled by ferry from Ketapang in East Java to the port of Gilimanuk in West Bali. Compared to the same period in 2019 when 240,418 people crossed the straits, this is a decrease of 39.5%.
In terms of vehicular traffic, the seven days before Christmas 2020 saw a similar decline of 59.5% in four-wheeled vehicles and 23.6% in motorcycle traffic. During the same seven days, 11,166 motorcycles and 15,797 four-wheeled vehicles made the crossing.
Traffic during the seven days leading up to Christmas traffic was at its heaviest during the 24 hours from 08:00 am on Christmas Eve 24 December 2020 until 08:00 on Christmas morning 25 December 2020. This compares to 2019 when the peak in cross-channel traffic occurred on 21 December 2019.
